Football and Roma

Our football projects are designed to realize the following goals:
  1. To learn how to play soccer
Participants of soccer training teams are to learn basic techniques as well as team tactics. They are to be encouraged to make active sports part of their lifestyle. The skills of a sport augment their internal resources, improve their behavioural resources and their problem solving ability.
  2. Placement of children into local soccer clubs
  3. Teaching of social skills
We attempt to improve participants' discipline, team skills, their willingness to accept responsibility and to stimulate their conflict solving ability and boost their self-esteem by soccer. These values and social skills are after all important for their careers and integration into society.
Specific initiatives are:
  1. to build up and to support soccer training associations who offer training under competent guidance for children and young people free of charge.
  2. to support the set up of soccer teams or informal training possibilities for this target group.
  3. to ensure financial support of soccer projects for this target group by local football associations.
  4. to promote the integration of Romani children and young people into local sports associations.
We also focus our attention on strengthening girls' football. Our initiatives are, due to structures and realization, open to all children and young people (Romani and non-Romani).

The practice of a sport is an important resource for children!

Today's life situation of a great number of Romani children and young people in Europe is characterized by discrimination, exclusion, poverty, precarious housing situation, lack of educational opportunities and either poor or lack of public health care. There seems to be no way out of this vicious circle. We want all children to be able to choose a career that will help them to find their place in society , to enjoy financial security and to get the possibility to develop their skills and talents. Organized sport is a positive step towards integration. Young people should be encouraged, to begin and to complete an apprenticeship, enabling them to earn a living. Our goal is to assist them, together with other initiatives and organizations, on their path to a successful integration.
